Get to Know Where To Go

Understanding where to turn for healthcare can make all the difference in getting the treatment you need quickly and effectively. The Get to Know Where to Go initiative, part of a Greater Manchester project, offers a helpful booklet designed to guide you through NHS services. Whether it’s self-care tips, pharmacy advice, or urgent care options, this resource ensures you’re informed and prepared when you need it most.

The booklet includes:

  • Clear explanations of the different NHS services available.
  • Tips on managing minor illnesses and injuries at home.
  • Guidance on accessing digital tools like NHS 111 online for quick advice.
  • Information on urgent care services, dental and eyecare support, and mental health resources.

Keep this guide handy for quick, effective healthcare advice for you and your family. Learn more about the project or download the booklet here: Get to Know Where to Go – Greater Manchester.

Know Where to Go for Help

There is help available 24/7. It’s a good idea to keep basic supplies like pain relief and fever medicine for you and your family. Always order repeat prescriptions in advance, especially before holidays. If you run out of your regular medication, you can request an emergency supply from any local pharmacy, though there may be a charge.

Videos for Common Health Conditions

You can find a range of videos for parents and adults that explain how to manage common health conditions here.

The “When Should I Worry” booklet is also a helpful resource for parents and carers. It’s available in multiple languages here.

How Pharmacies Can Help

Pharmacists can provide advice on many health issues and recommend medicines. They can assist with minor illnesses such as:

  • Coughs, colds, sore throats, flu
  • Aches and pains
  • Mouth ulcers, red eyes
  • Sleep problems
  • Tummy upsets, constipation, diarrhoea

Pharmacists can speak to you privately about these concerns (not just over the counter).
