Accessing GP Services

Information on how to contact GP practices, available appointment options, health screenings, and services aimed at improving patient care.

Contacting Your GP Practice

Our five GP practices offer three methods to contact them:

  • online
  • by phone
  • in person at reception

GP practices are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 6:30pm

Enhanced Access Appointments

We provide Enhanced Access Services at all five of our GP practices, offering appointments outside the usual hours of 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday to Friday.

These additional appointments allow patients to see healthcare professionals early in the morning, late in the evening, or on weekends, providing greater flexibility.

These appointments are available:

  • Monday to Friday: Early mornings (before 8:00 AM) and evenings (after 6:30 PM)
  • Saturdays: At Firsway Health Centre and Washway Road Medical Centre

Services include:

  • Blood tests
  • Blood pressure checks
  • Cervical smears
  • Annual health reviews
  • Appointments with GPs, physiotherapists, and clinical pharmacists

You can book these appointments through your usual GP practice.

GP Patient Survey

Every January, a random sample of patients registered with a GP practice are invited to participate in the GP Patient Survey. The feedback helps us improve services. Practices review the results in July and plan changes or improvements, often in consultation with Patient Participation Groups (PPGs). If interested in joining your practice’s PPG, please contact your GP directly.

Improving GP Practice Websites

Each practice is enhancing its website to improve user-friendliness and ensure it meets NHS standards. Links to the Primary Care Network site will be included to provide easy access to local services.

Our Team of Allied Health Professionals

  • First Contact Practitioners (FCPs)
  • Social Prescribing Link Workers
  • Clinical Pharmacists
  • Health and Wellbeing Coaches
  • Care Coordinators
  • Nursing Associates
  • Physician Associates

Preventing Cancer through Better Screening

We are committed to cancer prevention through regular screening. Information on cervical, breast and bowel screening will be provided in separate sections to ensure clarity and focus.

Reducing Heart and Stroke Disease through Better Screening

The NHS is dedicated to helping patients maintain better health for longer. We focus on reducing the risk of life-limiting conditions such as stroke, heart disease, and diabetes.

NHS Health Check (Ages 40-74)

If you’re aged 40-74 and eligible for an NHS health check every 5 years, make sure you book this when invited by your GP practice. Ask, if you are unsure when your next NHS health check is due.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening (Men Aged 65)

Men aged 65 will be invited for AAA screening. If you’re over 65 and haven’t been screened, you can self-refer by calling 0161 447 9957.

Blood Pressure Checks

We encourage everyone who hasn’t had a blood pressure checked in the last two years to get one. Blood pressure checks are available at your GP surgery or local pharmacies. We also offer this service in community settings:

  • Sale Moor Community Centre: Monday morning
  • Our Sale West Youth Centre: Tuesday morning
  • Drop-in from 9:30am to 2:00pm

Diabetes Risk Screening

If you’ve been told you have pre-diabetes or a high blood sugar level (non-diabetic hyper-glycaemia (NDHG)) or have a family history of diabetes, contact your GP practice to check if you’re eligible for an NHS health check.
